Marble is a metamorphic stone, formed when limestone is subjected to intense heat and pressure over millions of years. That process is what produces its signature veining: mineral deposits that streak and drift through the stone in patterns no two slabs share exactly.

We would rather tell you the truth about marble than sell you a countertop you were not prepared for. Marble is softer and more porous than granite or quartz. Acidic foods and liquids, such as lemon juice, wine, or vinegar, can etch its surface, leaving a dull mark where the acid has reacted with the stone. It is also more prone to scratching than harder engineered or igneous materials, and it requires regular sealing to guard against staining.
