It looks like marble. It performs like granite. And like every slab we work with, it is in stock, fabricated in-house, and installed in five days.
Its name is easy to confuse with engineered quartz countertops, but the two materials are built in entirely different ways — worth understanding before you choose between them.
Geology
What makes quartzite different.
Quartzite is a 100% natural metamorphic stone. It begins as sandstone, and over millions of years, heat and pressure deep in the earth fuse its quartz grains into a dense, crystalline slab that is quarried and cut, not manufactured. Every slab is one of a kind, shaped by geology rather than a factory line.
The names sound almost identical, and the confusion is understandable, but quartzite and quartz are fundamentally different materials. Quartz is an engineered surface — crushed stone bound together with resin and pigment to produce a consistent, manufactured pattern. Both are excellent countertop materials, but they are not interchangeable, and knowing the difference matters when you are choosing between a natural slab and an engineered one.

But where marble is a relatively soft stone prone to etching from lemon juice, wine, or vinegar, quartzite’s hardness lets it resist scratching and etching far better, and it stands up to heat exposure with a confidence rare in a natural stone.
In practical terms, it lets you build the marble aesthetic you have been picturing without inheriting marble’s fragility. It is the closest a natural stone comes to giving you both beauty and toughness in equal measure.
